Sticky Toffee Pudding

I'm obviously really rubbish at blogging! After a roaring start in my first week I seem to have run completely out of steam and can only manage a weekly entry.

It's so hot and there's tons of other stuff to do. Not to mention that dessert often takes a back seat for me in hot weather! Just lately I've become obsessed with dried fruit. Particularly figs and dates. Not sure why - perhaps I'm so lacking in some essential vitamin that my system only craves far eastern fruits....

Hmmm.

What else? I got horribly drunk on Saturday with my chums - who fared even worse than me - at least I didn't have to live thru a hideous headache come Sunday morning - just a raging thirst and a serious hankering for bacon. But that's only normal. Isn't it? The others were only able to loll about in varying degrees of hungoveredness, and eating a full English on Sunday morning provided a serious challenge to more than a couple of them. I was able to tear thru mine with plenty of brown sauce plus toast and quaff back a latte at the end! Yay for me.

Now back at work and it's really dull. But work usually is isn't it? I'd much rather be independently wealthy and do lunch and shopping every day. I can hear everyone say I'd soon get bored. Maybe. But I'm bored of working for a living too so I'd like to give expensive living and non-specific loafing a try....

Phew!

Blimey! How hot has it been these last couple of days?

I'm really tired today so my blog may suffer. It was so hot last night that I didn't sleep properly. And I haven't had lunch today - too busy!

I spent the weekend away from home at friends' houses - one on Friday night and another on Saturday night. It was great to catch up and I had a blast. On Friday our friend cooked an amazing curry. I need to have speaks with her to get the recipe. On Saturday I went to a BBQ and the amount of food was immense! A whole mountain of char-grilled meat products was placed on a wobbly table with about a ton of salad and buns! Yippee!

A lot of summer spirit was consumed too - well into the wee small hours - and I can vaguely remember singing (not solo I might add!) at top volume. The song of choice was Gold by Spandau Ballet - how marvellous. Fortunately the neighbours were sitting just a couple of feet away and were joining in with great gusto so noise pollution wasn't really an issue!

I'm gonna stop now as I've completely run out of steam.

For those who have an interest, the dessert of the day was white chocolate and orange sponge. Not something I'm feeling drawn to I've got to say - too sticky sweet on a hot day like today.

It's apple crumble today...

...and we've already done the crumble bit on here last week!

I had a disastrous food evening last night! I was super hungry and a friend was visiting from Belgium. We decided to order from a new Japanese delivery place. I was v excited as Japanese food is tip-top delish with the added (and totally unusual) bonus of being surprisingly healthy.

Things started to look a little worrying when the delivery man got lost and we had to guide him in via mobile phone and a network of bonfires, semaphore signals and skywriting by a handily passing by-plane.

There was much excitement when the man pulled up outside on his bike - tummies were rumbling so loud the ducks on the dock outside were getting nervous! The guy jauntily pranced up the drive, pleased with himself for having survived his arduous journey and as he got to the front door the bag split and dinner ended up kerbside! HORROR! TRAUMA!

Matters were worsened when we spoke to the shop itself to ask what could be done (the delivery man was crimson with embarrassment and almost mute!). The shop stopped cooking at 9.30pm - it was 9.40pm! There were tears. There was gnashing of teeth, rending of clothing and pulling of hair (our own obviously - not each others as we were all united in sorrow!)

I ended up with a small cup of soup and a chocolate biscuit. Crashing disappointment.

Still, this morning dawned and I sprung into work and tore into a sausage and brown sauce (thank you HP!) sandwich. I was then a happy and contented human being.

Food is so important and it's amazing how we take it for granted. Just one evening of going without as much as I'm used to was a big deal. Imagine going days on end without....

Makes ya wonder. And thankful.

time is flying by.....

Today's dessert will be Lemon Curd Sponge. It's only early yet tho so lunch seems a long way off....

Actually, scratch the last last line - it's now lunchtime!!!! Yay!

Apologies Blog for not being very attentive but I've had a busy weekend filled with lazing about and eating, followed by some general aimless faffing and some more specific sofa-based loafing.

Just a quick few words about Lemon Curd. It's great! Especially on toast. Right. That's done.

What now?

My eating over the weekend could be worth some discussion as I went to a BBQ and ate heartily but not unhealthily - apart from a lot of wine which was, of course, taken purely for medicinal purposes.
The 'other half' was bordering on seriously grumpy on Sunday as I'd not washed any socks over the weekend. How awful. Socks - they're dull aren't they? Especially when there's chargrilled chicken within easy reach and a whole box of raspberry flapjacks just screaming blue murder to be scoffed. The laundry became a hazy kind of memory that disappeared as soon as I couldn't see it. Hmmm. Perhaps I should focus on chores a little more. But they're so boring! Take ironing for example. I wish someone would actually! Take my ironing that is. My friend hates it too and has a whole special kind of headache that she only gets when forced to press clothes. I on the other hand just suffer huge memory loss and disorientation at the mere mention of laundry. I often stand and wonder what the wierd cupboard with the round window is for when standing in the kitchen. I'm then jolted into realisation by the noises coming from it and I realise that, yet again, I've had a mental blank and the other half has slavishly deposited all of our smalls inside for a freshen up.

Maybe if I put a hobnob or choco-liebnitz inside the drum I'd be spurred into taking my turn at doing the washing. I may begin to have a Pavlovian dog response and start to drool every time I smell fabric softener.

I don't want any readers to think I'm lazy. I'm pretty good around the house - tidy (most of the time) and I've got a good friendship with the dishwasher - which I do remember to fill and empty. The cleaner buffs the rest of the place over tho so my expert bathroom polishing skills aren't often called to the fore.

I need food so excuse me whilst I go and peruse the day's selection....

Blue sky!

Can you believe the weather? What a fab day!

Alas! Chained to my desk and only able to look out of the windows and watch planes take off from Gatwick airport into the beautiful Caribbean blue sky.

The lunchtime dessert today is a little at odds with the weather - mixed fruit crumble. Crumble reminds me of comfort food on cold, dark wintry days when you can put your fluffiest jumper and thickest socks on and then throw yourself upon the sofa for extended periods of movie viewing, allowing yourself quick breaks to top up on crumble n custard, tea, biscuits and to change the dvd.

A more approproiate dessert for today would be ice cream with something summer-fruity - strawberries for example. Problems with this are
a) I'm reeeealllly choosy on the types of ice cream I like and a rubbish flavour would make me really miffed.
b) After a lovely lunchtime sitting in the sun with my strawberries I'd need to follow it with a few glasses of Pimms which would inevitably lead to vodka tonics and then a whole evening bender at a splendid beer garden somewhere pretty. Not condusive to a Thursday afternoon busy work schedule.

oh pants! Why is there work? I think I shall decide to win the lottery on Saturday as feel I deserve it.

Apple & Cinnamon Pie

YUM!!
Good ol' apple pie - everyone loves it, there's no getting away from that fact. Actually, not everyone loves it. I do know of a couple of people with a gene defect which has rendered them incapable of feeling anything but disappointment when it comes to apple pie.

BUT. When you throw in a bit of cinnamon. Life suddenly becomes rosier, the birds sing more sweetly and traffic lights magically change to green all the way home!

What is it about cinnamon that is sooooo good? Although, similarly to apple pie but with a more polarised reaction, cinnamon is a 'love it or hate it' kinda thing. Cinammon sticks are a bit rubbish tho aren't they? Strirring my coffee with one on Sunday afternoon (post shoping - see yesterday's blog...) whilst demolishing a huge wedge of cheesecake didn't make that much difference to my cappuccino.

Although, there are stories about what eating large amounts of cinnamon can do for a gentleman...

answers on a blog postcard please.....

Dessert du jour......

....is Chocolate Sponge with Chocolate Sauce!

Yes, I too can hear the heavenly voices of angels!

Now, a discussion on chocolate. On Sunday whilst roaming aimlessly through the door section of the fridge I happened upon a forgotten (well, only I had forgotten, it would seem - more on this later...) chocolate lolly from M&S. Chocolate lolly? I can sense the confusion coupled with tense choc-related excitement from you, dear readers, already! Yes. Chocolate lollies! Yummy chocolate (not frozen) on a stick. Perfect or what? This one was mocha flavoured and I was so excited as I was expecteing nothing more than the usual range of margerine, jam and that bottle of jiff lemon that's always kicking about in there, but I can never remember buying.

Anyway - I ripped open the wrapper with much delight and scoffed it immediately whilst walking around looking for the shoes I'd hurled off in drunken haste the night before. It was only on finishing that I gave some thought to the other important thing in my life (apart from cake and chocolate!) - my other half. I hadn't shared. My guilt lasted an enormous 40 seconds before I wiped it from my mind with the giddy anticipation of a mammoth shopping spree.

Much later - post shopping - I was lazily enjoying a cup of tea and considering looking for a biscuit ( a lesser love of my life) when the question "what happened to that chocolate lolly we had in the fridge?" gripped my ears and my cold, stony, selfish heart. I had to confess.

The resulting forgiveness from the other half made my guilt even worse! I have now decided to make amends - I shall buy a huge stash of chocolate lollies for our fridge! Problem solved!

Can you belive it?!

It's Monday afternoon already! It'll be Friday again sooner than I know it and I'll be jolly n perky once more!

I have now decided what my inspiration will be for my blogging. My passion for cake has led me to name my blog after it so I am going to use my work dinner hall's daily dessert as a springboard for discussion!

Today's dessert? Spotted dick.
I think it's fortunate that my working day is nearly done and I don't have to take anything from spotted dick - especially inspiration!
It is splendidly delicious with custard tho......

Sunday morning!

Yikes! Sunday already. I seem to have spent the whole weekend, so far, boozing with friends. Not a bad thing necessarily but now my whole system is begging for a bit of a rest and a whole bag of mini Jaffa Cakes all to itself with many cups of tea.

I'm hoping to blaze a huge retail therapy trail this afternoon and clear a whole swathe of shops of most of their fabulous items. In reality I'll probably get home later this afternoon with a small bag containing new socks and some pants that seemed a good idea in the shop!

I wonder how Adele is getting on with her blog....

Yowsers!!!

Lordy! Wine and wine with too much wine!

Just arrived home from an evening of strange but seriously tastey dim sum and a cheeky rose. From then on to a club and too many, too rapid vodkas and an interesting taxi journey with a chirpy Albanian taxi driver. He's convinced Albania is the new Greece/Costa Del Sol and recommends buying up as much beachfront property or land as is humanly possible. I wouldn't even know which part of Albania to start in! He was kinda cute and really friendly tho so it all made sense. In the morning it will all be cold and pointless I'm sure!

Heck! I'm looking forward to breakfast - is that bad?

The Beginning

OK. This is it! My blog begins.
.... right then.....
hmm....
When do people get time to blog? I'm currently at work and I really should be working - not like I'm not busy or anything. I shall consult my colleague Adele, also embarking on her new blog journey, on when/how she intends to fit this in to her work/tea and biscuits schedule.

Adele has no answer. I shall think on this and other questions later.

I'm very pleased it's Friday. Even tho there's only been 4 days at work this week I'm soooo weary. I intend to drink a lot of dirty shandy booze this evening but only just enough to feel silly, but not cause any ill-effects tomorrow. I shall fail of course and wake in the morning with a mouth like the inside of a hoover bag (or Dyson bagless cylinder if you're flash!). Note to self.... leave large glass of water by the bed.

Friday night at last!!!

Aah! It's Friday night and work already seems distant. It's wet and grey in soggy ol' London town and I'm attempting to gear up some energy to get ready for a night on the razz in the West End. Not enough time for a nap but too much time to sit and do nothing..... so I thought 'blog'!
Might as well get some practice in.
Does anyone actually read these or am I typing away for my own keyboard practice and personal therapy? Hmmm.
Hello to anyone who's stopped by. What made you drop in I wonder..... whatever the reasons, do take a seat and help yourself to complimentary nibbles...
