Pear & Ginger Crumble

I'm not that much of a fan of ginger. Come to think of it, I'm not that keen on pears either.

I am, however, most thrilled with my lunch today. After a lacklustre pre-decision scan at what was available, I had prepared myself for a dull, unappetising choice which had the potential to turn my Friday afternoon into a gloomy affair. Actually, there were Jammy Dodgers on standby so it wouldn't have plummetted too low.

Anyhow, I spied mushroom stroganoff on the menu but was put off by the wild rice. So I had it with chips instead. Inspired!! It looked so great, the lady behind me in the queue gasped with undisguised fascination, then promptly ordered the same for herself. Culinary genius!

I'm now feeling a tad full. But extremely pleased with myself. The Jammie Dodgers are quite close to hand but I'm not feeling drawn just yet. Probably later with a nice cup of tea and a hob nob chaser!

Not sure what to do over the weekend. I can feel a mammoth shopping trip lurking at the back of my awareness and I'm not sure whether I should give in to it and go bananas or if I should smother it and save the cash. For an even bigger splurge at some time in the near future. Obviously!

I may be off to India on Monday. Last minute work plans. All keeps one on one's toes. At least I get to eat groovy Indian food and do a bit of unusual shopping. I'll probably be given a humungous list by my work chums to bring back and king's ransom in pashminas.....

Chelsea Bun

Chelsea buns are kinda wierd aren't they?! Part breakfasty cake and part afternoon tea bun. I'm not entirely sure when to have them and what to have with them. My jury is out on Chelsea Buns. Kinda like Chelsea boots. Not too sure how I feel about those either....

Everyone around me is talking/planning holidays at the moment. Holidays are 2nd in my heart to food. Especially as holidays lead to great food opportunities. I've been quite proactive this year with my holidays. I've got quite a few jaunts already planned out and wardrobe/tan maximisation schemes are being activated. All I need to do now is to get myself into shape so that people will be amazed at the person of mind-boggling, Titan-esque stature that I will soon become! Well, that's the plan anyway. Of course "best made plans..." and all that will probably render me pale and rather untoned on arrival at most, if not all, of my holiday destinations. They have a habit of just sneaking up on you unexpected don't they? You look forward to them for months and all of a sudden you're waking up at 4am so that you can throw your unironed clothes and still damp-from-the-wash pants into a bag, then to search for your long-lost sunglasses and that handy travel guide you bought 4 months ago when you booked, all in time for a 6am check-in.

Ooh! I'm tired just thinking of that. Perhaps I need a holiday.....

Eve's Pudding

Eve's Pudding?!! Haven't a clue about that one! But as soon as Eve finds out she's gonna be really mad....

I failed to even find out what Eve's Pudding is I have to admit. I was too distracted by hot dog and chips. I was so hungry I couldn't focus on anything else at all! After approx 8 mins of furious chewing, ooh-ing and aah-ing with pure delight I found I'd over-estimated my hunger levels. I had to donate most of my chips to a willing and eager colleague and the roll from my hot dog got filed under "B" for bin.

Now sitting rather full and sleepy nursing some sparkling water.

When is it going to be Spring? I'm looking forward to bluer skies, warmer breezes and more sunshine. It's sooooo cold at the moment. It's making me a little gloomy. Perhaps I should go and live in sunnier climes. I like to visit said loactions often so I might as well just live in one!

Jam Roly Poly

Now then. Jam roly poly. I think I've discussed it before. It's jammy and good with custard on a cold day but I'd choose tons of other stuff first.

What's been happening then? Hmm. I've been to Brighton a fair bit lately and I'm gradually finding my fave food places. On Sunday morning had an amazing cooked breakfast at a cafe but then had enormous food envy when I saw my friend David's brekkie selection. Full English breakfast hash!!! Can you imagine it? It came in a huge towering stack of steamy potatoey fabulousness. I felt a bit miffed with my previously much envied breakfast. I couldn't resist sliding a sneaky forkfull from David's plate and devouring it - all the more tastey for the guilty pleasure of it not having been my food. I've decided to go back next Sunday to have the hash! Taking a police woman friend with me and we all know police people know a good food stop when they come across one, so I'll be asking her what she has jotted down in her very important police person's best food tips notebook.

I'm going to Lagos for work next week. Nigeria isn't at the top of my 'must-see' list I've got to say, and I've heard a few toe-curling stories but I'm a bit intrigued. A colleague has told me to avoid Bushmeat stew which is apparently rat! Hilarious! Glad I found that out or I'd be up for sampling a bit of local flavour! I'm only going for a couple of days so it'll hopefully pass without incident.

I'm a bit hungry at the mo. Not sure why as I had lots to eat at lunchtime - beef teryaki - yum!
I'm a HUGE Japanese food fan. They've really sussed some cool, cheeky food surprises. I love teryaki and I love Japanese curry. Edemame - soya beans you suck out of the pods are great! Also one of my favourites, which amazed a Japanese colleague, is Japanese pickled radish. I know, I know. Sounds totally wierd but they are amazing. I recommend everyone (anyone!) who reads this blog to try them.

Actually, I wonder if anyone does read my blog... I'm aware that there has been a lapse of new entries of late and a certain dip in quality/entertainment value.

Is there anyone out there? Who does read blogs anyway? Wow! Get me! Deep, searching questions. I like to blog because I like to write stuff down. I also like to chat and waffle, so blogs are ideal when you've got no-one about to talk to. And I am REALLY rubbish on my own. Even watching my fave TV or films alone. I can't focus on them. I need someone to discuss it with. I guess it's just because I can't keep my mouth closed for more than a few minutes at a time.

Yikes. Things to do. People to see. Places to go.

Drop me a line if you're passing by. Unless you're trying to flog something useless or provide an uninteresting/impractical service. I get a lot of nonsense spam blog. Sigh....

cake that you have on your birthday

Well. I'm feeling very weary. I've just spent the weekend in lovely Rome. It was great. I like it a lot. The food is fab, the weather was warm (warmer than here anyway!) and the people are all so cool it's unbelievable. Even the slightly less attractive people were so chic they made me feel like a bag of spanners as I lumped around the place. It was my birthday yesterday and the trip to Rome was my present from the other half. And a splendid gift it was too. I insisted on many coffee stops whilst wending my way from spectacular edifice to stunning historic moument (and they're only the ice creams I consumed - not even mentioned the sightseeing yet!)

Back to work today tho and it's all so grey and grim that it's taking all of my powers of concentration to prevent my head from slumping to my desk in a drool puddled stupour. However, there's always the cake. We have plenty on offer today but my faves so far (I've only tried a couple) are chocolate pies and mini lemon meringues - well done Waitrose!!!!

It's also raining now too which is adding to my feelings of absolute gloom. When oh when will it be Spring again. Then I can gallop with crazy foolish abandon across tulip laden meadows towards a table groaning with the weight of afternoon tea and biccies. Sigh.

I could do with a serious lie down now. In between the last paragraph and this, I squeezed a doughnut in. It was only a small one so I thought it was probably rude not to...

Cake and choc-a-go-go!

Yowsers!!!

It's Valentine's Day (obviously) and blog-buddy Adele's birthday today so the office is postively studded and festooned with cake, sweets and goodies.

Commiserations to those who waited in vain for the flowers and cards to arrive, discussions with colleagues indicate that we feel your pain!

However, there's always our favourite artery clogging, tooth rot to fall back on. Chocolate. Whilst unable to solve third world debt and eradicate crime, chocolate goes a little way to spreading a bit of love! Pass it around we say. A malteser here, a minstrel there. Every little helps!
Cake goes even further in it's stodgily friendly way. Currently doing the rounds just a few feet away are doughnuts (both jam and custard), Bakewell tarts (a personal favourite), chocolate teacake thingies (a personal fave of the other half so may smuggle one or two home to win extra Valentines brownie points! Mmmm - brownies!!!). Many other lively little delights are there too and I'm planning a full frontal attack upon those later, once my doughnuts settle......

I'm thinking that there are so many missed opportunities out there for valentines cakes - Bakewell Hearts for example. I may think up some more cakey puns and add them later. Or maybe I'll completely forget and leave it all hanging lamely until I next blog and have to release a feeble apology... hmm...

Chicken Jeera & Tarka Daal!!

Yes, yes, I know it's not a dessert. And yes, yes, I know I haven't blogged for at least a small eternity. I'll explain both.

I kinda lost faith in blog when I sat all keen 'n' eager just at the rosy, fresh dawn of the new year and the blog thingy just kept saying that there were problems with memory and I'd have to delete stuff. I couldn't get it to work and after a few attempts - evidence now displayed for all to see! - I couldn't get any other response from the darn thing! It was only today, in passing, whilst discussing Chicken Jeera et al. that my colleague Adele told me I should blog about it and that my New Year one had in fact worked.

There was some light rejoicing (let's call it 'diet rejoice' - it's the only mention of diets that there's ever gonna be on my blog!).

Well here I am. Full of chicken jeera and tarka daal. All pleased with myself for eating something so yummy for lunch. I realise it's not any kind of dessert but it's an unusual blogging day and that means that it's allowed. For today.

What do I tell ya now? Hmmm.....

I spent the first week or so of this year In Delhi on business. It was cold. Very cold. I arrived armed with my shorts, sunglasses and a nifty collection of short-sleeved wear. I ended up swathed in multiple layers (of previously mentioned glam short-sleeved wear) and a hooded top. Of course I consumed much Indian fare and was kept extremely happy by an Indian dessert made entirely out of carrots and milk. Sounds spooky I know but it's an amazingly cheeky surprise. Well done and hats off to our Indian dessert buddies! It's kind of like treacle sponge but not as spongey. It was warm and comforting - especially on chilly days.

Other new dessert discoveries..... update.....

My flat in Brighton is close to a cool foodie place - called The Real Eating Company - pop in if you're nearby, it's fab. Mind you, don't all go at once as I'd like to make sure that there's always a spot for me to throw myself down on a Sunday morning! Everyone's so friendly (and attractive which is always a splendid bonus). They have just opened up a patisserie a few doors down that make the most un-believ-able pan au chocolat! I shall eat nothing else for breakfast again. And breakfasts shall now last well into the afternoon to provide ample opportunity to scoff down as many as possible. Of course a nice cup of tea assists the process admirably. They also do a nice line in enormous pies too, so if you're fancying a little something savoury....

I've exhausted myself now. My curry high is ebbing away and I'm crashing into post lunchtime doldrums and in need of a sugar rush to nudge me on until 5.30pm. Hmmm... think I'd quite like a kit-kat chunky.....

Lashings of Christmas Pudding, Mince Pies and posh French macaroons...

Yowsers!!!

How long has it been?? Have you missed me? I've certainly missed you blog... It's been a long ol' while hasn't it? Unfortunately I don't have time to fill in all of the gap since my last entry so I'll just give a brief, bullet-pointy, sketch. Here goes...

work
travel - lots
food - ooh tons
Christmas - sparkly
New Year - Paris - tres chic!

Er... pretty much covers it.

I returned from Paris this afternoon full of New Year promise and hopes for 2006. I also returned quite literally full of groovy French macaroons. If anyone who stops by to read this ever visits Paris, you HAVE to go to Laduree for their macaroons!!! There are stacks of different colours and flavours and they taste unbelievable! You have to try them to understand.

sigh..

what next? I'm a bit out of practice I guess. I'm off to Delhi on business in 2 days and I'm fairly looking forward to it but I'll be away from home for a little while. I've had a tiring Christmas really so when I return from India I just want things to be a little low-key for a bit.

A lot of my recent travel has been for work and I'm very lucky as it's interesting work and I travel to a variety of fascinating places. I've also travelled quite a lot for fun lately too. I have to admit that my favourite thing to do when I'm in a new place is to sit and watch the world go by. People are always so interesting when they're just going about their daily business.

Other news that I've just remembered... I am now living in 2 places at once. My flat in Brighton is lovely and close to the sea, so I can have a whiff of sea air regularly now to keep my cobwebs at bay.

Right. I think that this will be it for now. My blogging muscles are flabby and saggy nowadays so I need to build up gently to my usual prowess!

Ginger & Hot Syrup Pudding

Bleeargh!!! Today's dessert is a complete waste of cakey cravings. I can't bear ginger. Unless it's with spring onions and chicken.

However, a cheeky dessert surprise did catch me off guard earlier today. Chocolate chip Snack-a-jacks!! I couldn't believe that puffed rice could be so tastey. Honestly! Normally they're the domain of savoury snacks, I know , I know, but give it a try. I think it's the chocolate chips that do it for me.

Other dessert news....

On Sunday whilst in Brighton I went to Bills for a soya latte (ooh! get me!) and, obviously, a small wedge of cake - it had been an exhausting walk after all. I was shopping for furniture and that can wear a person down.

Anyway, back to the cake. I ordered fig, berry and franzipan cake. When it arrived I felt like I'd just stepped into dessert Narnia! I couldn't believe it! The cake looked like a huge slice of glossy, fairytale garden. It was a towering fruit pile with tons of sprigs of heather and flowers poking from every sugary nook and cranny! That lasted for about 4.7 seconds - until I got my eating irons into it! Then it just collapsed into a dessert heap. 6.7 seconds later it was just a creamy, jammy smear left on my plate. Fortunately my latte was quite hot so it took a while to polish that off, otherwise I'd have been sat idly gawping at my chums who daintily pecked and nibbled at their cake. Actually, the other half had boiled eggs with soldiers. I was really envious of that too - I love boiled eggs.

Hmm. What else...? The flat in Hove is taking shape - if a little devoid of furniture, but as I spent most of my time gadding about looking for furniture to buy or looking for new coffee & cake pit-stops, I was hardly there.

Okey dokey. Ever onward and time to turn my attentions to some work. How inconvenient!

Apple & Walnut Sponge

Sponge. Sponge. Just say it over a few times to yourselves.... It's a fab word isn't it? I love the word 'sponge'. Dunno why. Just do. Probably 'cos I love eating it too.

Anyhoo... Things have happened since last blogging. I've taken possession of my new flat in Hove which is abso-bloomin-lutely marvellous. It's close to the sea and the day after moving in we sat on the beach with cups of coffee and, of course, cake. I love the seaside in autumn/wintertime. The sea is so much more interesting when it's being thrashed up to the beach by stiff force 9 to be dumped, frothing noisily on the sand, or pebbles in Hove's case.
A downside of the Brighton/Hove coastline is the monstrous, mutating seagulls that strut swaggeringly up and down the seafront. They have bags of attitude and are gigantic. Really! Some are the size of a small family hatchback! What with those sneaky, beady eyes and those awful yellow beaks (which often have a cruel and cunning smile - I swear), they're a real threat to seaside enjoyment - not to mention the chaos they cause to car cleanliness! I am now resolutely dedicated to disliking them. A friend is often terrorised by pushy gulls and often has to find new routes to favoured places as local gull-gangs hang out frightening tourists into handing over burgers, candyfloss and keys to their hotel rooms for ransacking. I have pledged my time in Hove (apart from drinking, eating and making merry) to facing up to this nasty element of coastal life and making sure that they don't own the beach. Perhaps if they were smaller and cuter it would be ok....

Treacle Tart

Treacle tart. Let's think. Dunno. I'm in a confused food mood today. Nothing took my fancy and, as we all know, I really hate that. I had noodles and salad stuff again. Is that healthy? Not sure about the noodle bit. I'm sure Atkins devotees would swoon at the very thought of a carb laden noodle adding at least an ounce of fat to my fleshier parts. On the other hand... noodles don't have any fat in them. Do they?
Anyway. Treacle tart is a a veritable coronary-fest so it's probably a good job I haven't bothered.

Speaking of not bothering... I haven't bothered with any exercise for ages. Must be about a month now. I'm noticing a little tightening in my trousers - and not in a good/pleasing way if you catch my drift. I'm going to have to give in and start exercising again. Eek! I wish I could enjoy it like all of those grinning, bicep-bulging fitness fiends. Alas. I fear I shall never enjoy it. I just get sweaty and go red - no healthy glow of perspiration for me, just soaking, dripping unattractiveness. All I want is a flat stomach and upper arms that a movie star/male model would weep/kill/give their first-born for. I don't think that's too much to ask. If there are any super efficient, highly benevolent fitness trainers dropping by who'd love to take up my case (for free of course - I'll write your fitness blog in return...?), then I'd be willing to comit to fitness. It would also be great if said 'fitness instructor' were to be well turned out and... well.... attractive. Is that un- PC? Well, it's only a wish list!

I'm impressed I've blogged 2 days in a row. My blog is a bit dull today so apologies all. I'm feeling uninspired by gloomy weather and boring lunch. Perhaps I could look forward to dinner (ever the optimist!)

Chocolate and Orange Sponge with White Chocolate Sauce

Right. Not sure if I'm loving the idea of today's dessert. It makes me feel a bit nause. Mind you, that may be because I've eaten like I've been locked in a cupboard for the last 2 weeks! Since lunch (which was substantial in a salady/noodley kind of way), I've eaten 2 minty chocolate digestives, which were a revelation I have to say, a variety of other biscuits including chewy choc chip ones, a whole doughnut and a massive handful of jellybeans. Yowsers! The only pus in all of this - apart from the sheer delight of cramming a range of sugar based snacks down my throat - is that they were all free! Minty digestives couteousy of my colleague - thanks Adele - and the rest was delivered by a temping agency that we use in our office - thank you to them too.

I need a nice long nap now. Maybe a cup of tea.

I have a meeting in a bit but I'm quite sleep and lethargic. I think I shall take a note pad and look attentive but have lovely daydreams instead. I hope I'm not expected to answer questions.......

Oh, since you asked and all.... New York was fantastic! I drank far too many Tartinis and ate far too much of whatever was put in front of my continually open mouth. Great!

Other news this week is that my flat purchase in Hove is now moving on apace. It's all come as a bit of a surprise really as it was quiet on that score for a while. It looks like we can collect the keys on Friday - Yay! I shall then be able to live a more relaxed lifestyle splitting my time between the giddy headrush of London and the salty-aired calm of Hove. Aaahhh!

Toffee Apple Crumble

Not sure how I'm feeling about today's dessert. In principle I'm against it as I don't like toffee apples. However, toffee AND apple crumble could be a cheeky surprise. I remember getting quite tipsy in Sydney on Toffee Apple Martinis which were amazing....

I'm off to New York in 2 days - I can't wait. It's more or less an annual thing and I'm eager to hit the shops, bars and restaurants.
New York is kind of unique - it looks like a movie set (we all see it so much on TV), I love the sound of New York too - the honking horns and sirens. I love US drug stores - could spend hours in those - with their almost terrifying products which surely wouldn't be allowed in so many countries in Europe, yet the US is really wary of so many other kinds of drug that we have here in the UK. Wierd isn't it?!
I'm looking forward to eating donuts and bagels and hot-dogs on street corners. I might even throw in a pretzel, although they usually make me really thirsty. Always a good excuse to pop into a local hostelry for a cold beer and a sit down!

Things I don't like about New York
1. Outrageous theatre ticket prices
2. The fact that it's too expensive for me to own a Central Park view apartment
3. Having to leave to come home

In a way it's very similar to London - grubby, noisy but exciting and lively at the same time!

Ok. I'm now going to plan my eating/drinking/shopping itinerary. I may be some time.....

I look forward to seeing all of you New York bloggers in various bars around town. Please excuse me if I'm a little worse for wear and I apologise in advance for any untidy behaviour!

Jam Sponge

I'm having one of those days.

Really.

It's made me a bit cross to tell the truth.

Hmmmm....

I've got a sore eye - self inflicted pain - I poked myself in it with my sunglasses whilst in Seville and it's just got worse during the week.
I fell over on the way to work this morning - no major injuries, just some light throbbing in my ankle. Hugely dented pride tho as I tumbled over a piece of stone in some grass whilst rummaging through my bag. All straightforward up 'til then. However, it was right in front of the bus stop and as I spun out of control with my arms windmilling away I noticed the queue observe me with detached curiosity and vague amusement. Oooh.... my blush burned on for ages..... it's lonely out there when you're picking up the contents of your rucksack and praying for a handy place to hide.

To put a cap on it all, at lunchtime today on entering the dining room at work, my colleagues and I searched in vain for ages, looking for some food inspiration. Nothing came. I didn't fancy any of it! Oh the depression! Battered cod, veg korma, gammon sandwich (?), salad. It all left me feeling disappointed and a bit cranky. I settled on chips with mushy peas (grudgingly, of course!) and when I'd finished eating I just felt full but empty at the same time. Unfulfilled. Lunchtime drama eh? I don't even like jam sponge....

On the subject of achy eye. What can you do? Every blink. Yowsers!

At least it's the weekend. Only 2 days at work next week too as I'm off to New York for 5 days, to drink as many appletinis as I can before attempting the world shopping record for as many shops in one day coupled with ludicrous spend!

Can I get anyone anything whilst I'm there? I've got my list out....

Banana Pudding with Cinnamon Custard

My first reaction to this is '?'

I had to give it some serious thought. But on the whole, after a bit of a think, I reckon I quite like the sound of it. Sadly I'm not in my own office today so I can't taste it to provide any further info... how upsetting.

However, something I CAN comment on is food in Seville! I've just returned from a few days there and I'm very full of tapas! Too delish for words really. Not much cake consumed but quite frankly I wouldn't have had the space. There was a great deal of belt loosening and letting out of shorts drawstrings. The heat was lovely - 34 degrees each day with beautiful balmy evenings spent outside getting totally lashed up in streetside bars and clubs until 6am. Nothing begins to gear up until about 11pm and clubs don't even start chilling the beers until 3am! The people of Seville are stunning and even those considered less better looking made me feel like the chunkier business end of a mule....
Still, it's always nice to people watch (which I love almost as much as cake!) when the people are utterly gorgeous.

Of course I have spent the day mulling over how much I'd like to move to Spain so that I could spend days drifting languidly from home, to work, to siesta, then onwards to tapas and evenings of lighthearted hysteria with a crowd of beautiful people. Alas, my thoughts always return to the facts that a) I'm not independently wealthy enough to do so; b) I don't speak Spanish (yet!) and; c) I'm nowhere near fabulous enough to look at in order to compete!

Aah well. London is cool and I enjoy living here - plus there is always cake nearby and they don't sell Jaffa Cakes in Spain - they'd melt in the heat.

Pear & Apricot Crumble

Hmmm... I'm not thrilled by the sound of today's dessert. I'm not a big fan of pears and I only like dried apricots.

I'm really tired today so the thing I should really be concentrating on getting is coffee! Actually, a nice cup of coffee would be great about now. I'll finish my sparkly water first.

Had a nice relaxing weekend vegging about and doing virtually nothing. It's amazing how time flies when you're loafing about! I did some major, aimless gawping about on Saturday which was most enjoyable, then popped myself onto the sofa to watch the X factor and then went to sit in front of a bigger screen at the cinema to see "The Business" - cool film - quite fun with a hilarious 80's soundtrack - made me feel nostalgic and old all at the same time!

Sunday I got up at 9.15 and headed straight for the sofa to start in earnest quite early. I then moved from the sofa to a sofa bed in front of my X-Box which occupied my fly-wheel attention span for an hour or so. Lunch in the garden was followed by some seriously focused drifting about the house deciding where to beach myself next. I chose a beanbag near to the TV but also within easy slouching distance from the kitchen and snacks....

Aah. I just don't understand why I'm so weary today tho... Must have been the huge thunderstorms during the night and the resulting honking/quacking mayhem from the birds on the dock where I live.

Flapjacks, Carrot Cake, Chocolate Fudge Sponge, Spanish Macaroons, Brownies and Date & prune cake

G A S P ! ! !

All of the above. Yes ALL!! They are literally 2 feet away from my nose and my sticky, greedy, cake-snaffling fingers.

As a suggested idea from a colleague (a fellow lover of all things edible) we are having a "Bring-a-cake-that-you-have-made-yourself-to-work" Day. It's a blistering success. There have been a few cheeky surprises with one contender delivering, with no fanfare whatsoever, a glossy, sumptuous temptress of a cake (as yet untested - reports and full review available in the near future). However, there has also been skullduggery. The appeallingly innocent looking carrot cake is not all it seems....
Oh yes. It looks like a jolly little morsel. But, we have discovered it is nothing but a fraud, a phony! There was much scandalous gossip and a great deal of hooting incredulity when the discovery was made. The carrot cake is..... shop bought! And, to add insult to injury, was swathed in paper that this morning's breakfast toast was wrapped in. Shocker! It does taste mighty fine tho...

My cream cheese brownies have had a warm reception. However the macaroons seem to be a little lonely of attention. I can always take them home if untouched as the other half does seem to be rather partial to them.

The WI must have a right rip-roaring time with their cake bake-offs! Thank the Lord this wasn't a competitive event or there could have been gougings, bitings or pulling of hair.

I'm so full of cake that I can't even contemplate lunch today. I shall put ideas of lunch on hold whilst I nibble on a bit of flapjack. Mind you. I have many weekends away coming up - beginning tomorrow with the Bank Holiday weekend in Dubrovnik - so I need to be aware that a cake-belly on the beach is something that no-one should have to look at...

Breakaways!!!

I'm not in my usual office today so the dessert thing is a bit of a problem. However.....

I've just had a Breakaway biscuit. How fabulous! It took me right back to my childhood. All I needed to complete the memory was a meat paste sandwich, some cheese & onion crisps and a carton of juice. I can do without the shorts and sandals tho - not such a vision when considering enjoyable lunches... not to mention a bit nippy around the ankles.

In fact, another memory is slowly trickling thru.... I sometimes used to swap sandwiches with my friend Pete - he used to always have some kind of smoked chicken stuff on his and, for the odd change - and being a charitable sort I felt a bit sorry for him having the same thing all of the time! - I'd be willing to hand over a ham n cheese to live dangerously by eating exotic tinned chicken. Such culinary diverstity in one so young! Maybe that's why I switched to adoring cake and biscuits so much. A boy can only take so much non-specific tinned poultry product. I wonder how Pete turned out...!

Anyway. Breakaways. They're still really good! I was also coerced into having a couple of Rolos this morning too. Now they're still delish.

Do they still sell Curly Wurleys? I'd love to get my teeth into one of them...

Friday today and I'm already gearing up for a nigt out on the lash. I can already smell the dangerous whiff of beer and Soho. A dreadful yet heady combination. Saturday morning may just have to be rescheduled until later in the day.....
